my two friends have same problem, they have bout 3/4/5 yr old laptop, had battery and charging problems . they gave it for repair and now both their GPU's are not registered in system specs.

does it seem like a software problem or hardware problem? or their GPU's got stolen during repair?

Which laptops?
Unless they're using MXM modules you can't "steal" laptop GPUs because they're soldered onto the motherboard.

Said laptops could also not have any discrete graphics.
