Hello everyone, I was looking into upgrading my computer as now that I have just gotten an Oculus I'm noticing my PC's limitations. I am fairly certain that my computer is CPU bottlenecked and I know my motherboard is fairly old so I'm sure I will have to upgrade my Motherboard, RAM, and CPU. I don't currently plan on upgrading my GPU as I think it still works pretty well for what I do (I really hope). My overall goal is to be able to run some more "intensive" VR titles and other normal games without my CPU overloading and causing issues. I do want to point out that I don't really have a preference on Intel or AMD but I do want to stick with an ATX form factor and am just looking for a good cheaper upgrade.

Let me know if you need any more information or anything, I am only vaguely knowledgable about computers so bear with me if I sound like an idiot :)

Current parts List:

CPU: Intel Core i5-4590

CPU Cooler: Stock cooler (Don't really know what it is honestly)

GPU: GeForce GTX 1060 6GB

Memory: 32.0 GB of DDR3 1333 MHz RAM

Motherboard: ASUS Z97-A/USB 3.1

  • CPU: Ryzen 5600X with stock cooler
  • GPU: Keeping your 1060 6GB is a good idea in the current market
  • Memory: any 32GB (2x16GB) 3200MHz CL16 or 3600MHz CL16 (since you already have 32gb might as well not downgrade it)
  • Motherboard: any ATX B550 motherboard
  • Power supply: if you plan on upgrading your graphics a year or two in the future maybe snag a fully modular 850w if not then your current PSU should be fine
  • Case: reuse your current case
  • Storage: I recommend getting a 500gb or 1tb M.2 SSD to put on your motherboard and putting a fresh install of windows on there. In particular the Western Digital Black SN750 500GB is usually on sale for a great price.
