HP 10G network card issues

These are server grade cards that need server grade cooling. When they overheat, they shut down. Redirect some airflow in your cases to cool these cards.

Hi everyone,

I need some help with these HP 10G network cards I got off ebay. It's the HP NC523SFP dual NIC cards (Qlogic QLE3242)  that are quite cheap right now. I put one in my server (which is just small ITX case with an i3, RAID 10 and Windows Server on it) and one in my Ryzen workstation that I use for photo and video editing. My main goal was to have 10G connectivity between the two via DAC, so I can edit directly off the server and don't need to synchronize every time.

Now to the problem: In the workstation PC the interfaces keep disabling themselves even though device manager says they are running fine. Sometimes the PC will also not shut down or restart when the card is in. It's plugged into the second 16x slot and is an 8x card.

I have gotten it to work a few times after countless restarts but even then the transfer speeds were below 1G. They are running on the Windows 2012 R2 drivers because there are no official Win 10 drivers for this card. Before I bought them I did some research and many people reported that this driver worked fine for them.

Does anyone have and idea what else I could try? I also matched the NIC settings already on both cards (jumbo packet size etc.).

I hope so much that I can get it to work. Otherwise it would suck to see the money go down the drain.

One site says the adapter is based on the 82599 by Intel, and if that's true, maybe these drivers can help: https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/25016/Intel-Network-Adapter-Driver-for-Windows-10

Or if I'm wrong then we're just spinning our fans making idle heat.
