I'm having a problem or so i think it's a problem with my ram readings in my bios.

I have a Gigabyte Z87N-WIFI board:http://www.gigabyte.us/products/product-page.aspx?pid=4600#sp which is supposed to support up to 1600Mhz

My ram is G-Skill Trident X:http://www.gskill.com/en/product/f3-1600c7d-16gtx

The problem i'm having is that in my bios the ram reads 1333Mhz and the latency reads 9-9-9-24 and not the 1600Mhz  and 7-8-8-24 that is stated by G-Skill.

Am I just a noob or is there something wrong here?

It should be reading from xmp (or whatever that thing is called) and there probably is a button on the BIOS to read it. Otherwise you should be able to manually set it to that and it should work. If it doesn't work at the intended speed and timing and voltage then RMA.

I tried dialing in the timings manually to 1600Mhz but then my latency jumped up to 11-11-11-29, I haven't tried the XMP though, do I just have to enable it in BIOS?

Also i have to RMA my board for a defective sound card, but I think that problem might be isolated. I could be wrong

I'd look for any Bios update available for the Z87N.. Could be as simple as an update for compatibility.

I did actually send a RMA request to Gigabyte and they sent me a Bios update: F6A   :)

I flashed it and the problem persists, it connects/disconnects randomly all the time, when I watch a movie it kicks me out of full screen and opens up realtek's setting page. It's so f'ing annoying!

The worst part is that it took me 6hours to install everything into my case (hadron air) and I haven't built up enough courage to take it all apart again..

All you did was set it to manual then set 1600mhz correct? if so you need to set the timmings to 9.9.9 28 1t

not to add salt to the wound, but you should assembly the system out of case

and check the sub systems to check what you might have to go through. a test

bench, motherboard box kitchen table. kinda what Linus always discusses on

his builds. but hope it all works out for ya!

I actually did test it first, but only after a couple weeks of use did it start to show signs of a defect, I think as soon as I plugged my headset into the back I/O that's when I started to have problems.

@corduroy: I just enabled the XMP profile and I guess that automatically detected it, no need to manually set the timings, thanks though for the explanation.
