Hello.

i have a system containing

4690k @ 4.2 ghz

bequiet Dark rock pro 3

Msi z97 gaming 5

Asus 1060 6gb

samsung 850 evo 250gb

Kingston HyperCard 2x4gb cl9 1866mhz

i feel something is starting to run weak and im kind of suspect my ram to be one of the Things needing upgrade.

also, i do consider a 3070 og 3080 when these become available, but i am worried if my CPU wil bottleneck even if it’s overclocked.

can anyone guide me in the right direction?

Asus STRIX Z390I  | 9900K | Thermaltake TH120 | nvidia RTX 2080Ti Founders Edition | 850 EVO 250 GB | SF600 | Thor-Zone Mjolnir R | Noctua NF-A12x15 Chromax x3

for modern games, it's easy to see a quad core i5 holding back high end graphics cards.

Older CPUs are not really up to the task of the boundary-pushing performance of the new high end cards.

I WILL find your ITX build thread, and I WILL recommend the SIlverstone Sugo SG13B

Primary PC:

i7 8086k - EVGA Z370 Classified K - G.Skill Trident Z RGB - WD SN750 - Jedi Order Titan Xp - Hyper 212 Black (with RGB Riing flair) - EVGA G3 650W - dual booting Windows 11 and Fedora Linux - Black and green theme, Razer brainwashed me.

Draws 400 watts under max load, for reference.

What games do you play and what resolution fps do you want in those games? Maybe stick with your current system until you can afford a whole new system, the longer you wait the faster the new system will be. But if you want RTX 3000 right now maybe instead of a 3080 or 3070 save that money and go for an RTX 3050 when that comes out later this year. Then you can put that saved money towards getting modern processor/ram. But I recommend saving for a full rebuild

SPEC LIST:

  • CPU: AMD Ryzen 9 5950X w/ NZXT Kraken Z73 360mm Liquid Cooler
  • GPU: NVIDIA RTX 3090 FE

Known for being very demanding on the CPU, and benefitting from lots of cores.

Then stick with the 16gb ram, but make it 3600mhz - $80

Get a ryzen 5 5600x - $300

Get a MSI MAG B550 Tomahawk - $200

( Saved you some money - Spend it later on the graphics card)

Ok. So i just looked prices. A 5600x is $80 more than a 10600k, and currently theres an Asus ROG Strix Z490F mosterboard with $50 discount.

this seems like the better deal as of now

(these Are prices converted from Danish hardware retailers)

I'd still recommend the x570 and the 5600x

1. Because they perform better

2. x570 will be supported much longer (better upgrade path than being abandoned by 12th gen intel)

3. It has PCIE gen 4 support, so it will go with super fast storage and if NVidia does any more crazy generational jumps, PCIE 4.0 may actually be useful
