Quick question regarding the S20 FE's Holepunc is there a software toggle that enables a software based notch or black bar?

@dizmowasn't there some news that Samsung removed this setting in an update?

Mine still has it 🤷‍♂️ Honestly you don't even notice the hole punch after a couple of days.

The feature was removed in OneUI 3.0 that was released along with Android 11. So as long as you stay with Android 10 which still has OneUI 2.5, the option to hide the camera cutout is still there. TLDR: Never update the phone if you want the option.
