Hey, so my sister has an ipad, I personally do not like the brand, nor do I use it, but my mom and sister use it.

As my mom was watching netflix, something was controlling the ipad, going through contacts and whatnot, opening games etc...

I couldn't find anything beside having to resort to formatting it... which is our last resort as we have some things and stuff we cannot transfer.

No one installed anything for any of this to happen, and as of writing this, tried to facetime my sisters friends.

Sorry if this is in the wrong area, but I was hoping someone may have an alternative on how to fix this without formatting.

I'm posting this here because I have absolutely no clue what to do, I've never used any apple products, and resorted to asking here.

Question:
Did the actions seem intentional (like the things it pressed made sense) or was it all over the place?

It did, going through contacts, scrolling on games, clicking on netflix shows, and calling people on facetime.

I'm not an expert but I do have an iPad that I use.

I'd check the information in Settings under your apple ID to make sure everything is ok.

I don't know if this will help you but if you go to (Settings - General - Reset) there is a "Reset Network Settings" link  you can hit.

You will the need to know how to set up the Wi-Fi connection on the iPad again though if you do that.

I also had a problem a while back on an old iPad before the one I have now.

Where I had turned on in "Settings" - "Privacy" - Analytics & Improvements -the "Share With App Developers" slider and back then that really caused a lot of problems for me until I turned it back off again.

You might also want to check your router to see if everything is ok and maybe cycle it off and back on again.

If it was me and none of that works. I'd just talk to apple tech support about the problem.

Hope those suggestions help.

🙂

One possibility if it isn't a security issue: if the touchscreen or its software is messed up, you could get phantom presses that make it seem like someone is controlling the tablet. I had an Android phone that would occasionally freak out that way, and had to reboot it to make the problem go away.
