I have had my computer for a while now, and I was wondering if I maybe it is time to upgrade...

I am running: Gpu: asus strix 1070 oc

                      Cpu ryzen 5 1600x

                      Ram: corsair 8 g

When I play games on 1440p I usually get around 90 fps with high settings. I play games as rainbow, minecraft (with shaders), farcry and so on.

My prosessor is sitting att 70 % and my gpu around 50% when I play. The ram is at around 90%

Going to assume that you have 1 stick of RAM. If you do get a 2nd stick. That should give a 10 - 20% performance boost in almost all games and tasks

geometry is hard
b550 > x570

your motherboard chipset either starts with A, B or X and the numbers go as follows:
Ax20
where x must be 3
Bx50
where x must be either a 3 or 4
or Xx70
where x is either 3 or 4 or 5

Add another 8gb of ram before anything, then I would prioritize a cpu upgrade.

I would jump to a higher end Ryzen 3000 series, like the R7 3700x or something similar.
Bit excessive for a 1070 but it’s a cpu upgrade you would notice a bit more, rather than moving from a 1600x to a 3600x or something.

A lot of videos say that 8 gigabytes is enough for gaming, at least when I built it.

If that’s enough for what you do, then yes.

however with being so close to maxing your ram usage you may be seeing windows allocate ram to the games in expense of the performance of other applications and services running which are then hitting the swap file

i would suggest a ram upgrade first, 8gb of matching ddr4 is not expensive and even if you only top out at 10gb used under full load, you don’t have to worry that other applications are having to use swap instead

speccy by piriform gives a really clean look at the hardware, and shows temperatures of the gpu, cpu, most drives and motherboard

ok thanks!

How do I know if a memory stick is compatable with the one I have? The one I have now is the "Corsair Vengeance LPX Black DDR4 2666MHz 8GB". Do I need to buy the same one or can I match with different brands and so on?

Try to use the same modules if you can, but if everything seems to work ok with mismatch ram, then don't worry about it.

Some packages will have a sticker that says "ryzen compatible", my guess based on rumors, is that 1st gen ryzen was a little picky with what ram module was compatible, if someone could confirm that or correct me, that would help.

oh i figure, I think if you have the budget you could upgrade down to a Ryzen 7 3700X or go with the previous bang for the buck ryzen 5 3600, and it seems like you could upgrade your ram down to 16gb, follow other's advice on the ram upgrade
