Work offloading SAS drives, can I use it in my PC?

My job is offloading some HGST 8TB SAS drives, they're a few years old but iirc the drives have a 2.5Million hour MTBF rating which obviously isn't a guarantee but it's 8tb for almost free. 

 

If I use an LSI 9260-8i raid controller will I be able to use this in my PC?

Yea that raid card will work fine with the correct cables. 

 

Might want to get a hba if you don't want raid.

Would I be able to use the controller to set other drives up in raid while leaving that SAS drive alone? Or does everything connected have to be in the group?

Id probalby get a HBA and use software raid here.

 

But you can normally make a single disk volume to use it on its own.
