How is HP's cooling?

Go to solution Solved by iajadsfa,

We have received our rigs from Omen. After using a Dell with a i7 4770 and AMD HD graphics. The person who is using the knew Omens doesn't seem to notice the decreased cpu power. It's being used for machine learning anyways so the cpu is idle most of the time. GPU temps seem to be good too, they actually run cooler than my gtx 1060 idling at 28 degrees, not far above ambient.

Someone I know is going to be receiving two machines equipped with 10700Ks and RTX 3080s. They will serve as multipurpose compute servers to test software scalability. IDK what software exactly but I think it will be mostly machine learning related. The cpu will remain idle most of the time since its only job is to receive and instructions and give them to the GPU. I worry that even without overclocking, HP's cooling will be inadequate for the monstrous 3080s.

Yeah it should be from omen.

regular hp igpu oem's generally have a non existant amount of cooling (like a singular 80mm fan)

which to be fair is reasonable since there is no gpu turning it into an oven.

but i wouldnt worry about it since omen pc's have decent cooling

Thats okay, won't be overclocking anyway. Plus, the CPU will remain idle most of the time.

Poor VRM cooling isn't only an issue when overclocking. VRM's getting too hot can stop a CPU from reaching even its stock clocks.

HP's newest Omen PC's with 10-series processors and 30-series graphics look to have improved their front ventilation somewhat compared to the old models but are still far from good.

Corps aren't your friends. "Bottleneck calculators" are BS. Only suckers buy based on brand. It's your PC, do what makes you happy.  If your build meets your needs, you don't need anyone else to "rate" it for you. And talking about being part of a "master race" is cringe. Watch this space for further truths people need to hear.
