cpu clock speed goes down when playing games and shoots up instantly when the games are close

my laptop cpu (amd a9-9420e) clock speed goes down from 2.6 ghz to 1.6 ghz when starting a game, and shoots back up to 2.6ghz the second i close the game.

Probably this yea, when was the last time your laptop was taken apart and cleaned? Dust can clog up the fans and prevent cooling. Does it feel hot to the touch? Does it run super loud? Also, try to get a program like HWmonitor to see what your temps are.

Simply throttling due to either temperature or power limit.
