Im guessing is the graphics card but it might be the PSU. I'm doubting it because what happens is the pc output to the monitor stops working, yet I can still hear audio and the fans ramp up a noticeable amount. Any help works, I just got this PC used and got an SSD for it. It has a 290x and a i7 4790. I've looked around and updated, turned off fast boot and other things to no help.

What are the rest of the system specs?

Does it only shut off when using it for demanding tasks? If yes, it MAY be the graphics card. I'm guessing you didn't overclock it at all, if not, maybe try UNDERCLOCKING it. I'm just saying what i think might work, i'm not a proffessional or anythig, you should still consult other websites and maybe tech people that you know irl. Have a nice evening!

mobo- gigabyte z97-d3h-cf ram-32 gigs ddr3 1600 mhz. and I have a 500gb 860 evo and a 1tb toshiba hdd. Like I said it is used I paid a cheap price for it because my old system broke and I needed something for the meantime, which this is actually better than my old one. and the psu is a raidmax thunder v2.

It's done it when just on the home screen. I'm checking thermals more frequently now and they seem to top at 75.

If it's possible you should check if a different graphics card will have the same issue in the system, and If it doesn't, make sure all your drivers are up to date and your monitors and cables are also working fine.

If everything other than the card is working then that's probably the culprit.

I'll try that, I do have my old graphics card to try if it's not fried. My old PC's power supply went pop for context.

yes maybe try installing this https://www.msi.com/Landing/afterburner msi afterburner and decreasing the core and memory clock speeds, only IF the other people's replies didn't do it for you

I would try your old card and see if it makes a difference. I don't know that modifying your clock speeds on your graphics card will really help if the issues occur at idle as well.

Okay, so I purchased a new monitor so I had to move my computer so I had room for the second monitor. Come to find out after doing some research It appears to be a motherboard short. Or a short somewhere but it only happens if the computer is moved a little which explains it doing it when I first set it up as It had just had a decent car ride.
