I want to by Asus M5A97 but they say

Due to CPU spec., AMD 100 series CPUs support up to DDR3 1066MHz. With ASUS design, this motherboard can support up to DDR3 1333MHz.

what is AMD 100 series ? and  AMD FX-4300 is AMD 100 series or not ?

It might be the FX4100 but I don't think it's that.

Might be the Sempron 100 series I guess they were low end so the memory support might be low.

Don't worry about it though it wont effect your build.

There we go then.

I guess OP doesn't need to worry. :)

You can also run memory a lot faster than 1333MHz on that board if you're wondering.

Opteron 100 series were socket 939 parts based on Athlon 64. I really doubt that will fit in an Asus M5A97. lol (Don't know if joking or for realz)

It's AM3+ Semprons.

Haha, for me the link didn't work because crappy college proxy.

But whatever it is I doubt it's of relevance to any modern AMD CPU like the 4300 OP mentioned.

This is a 100 series Sempron.

Simply ewww. Would be a waste of a decent motherboard.

They were popular with people unlocking the 2nd core and overclocking, decent budget solution on 880G or whatever:)

Everyone overlooks the Athlon x4 750k. Great budget chip. It's an unlocked quad core that performs in the same tier as a Phenom II x4 955 for $79 (newegg). Only 95 watts so you can pair it with a cheaper motherboard and have a much better budget system for roughly the same money and a Sempron on that Asus board.

I usually take Athlon 760K over 750K because in the UK it's a £2 difference :P

But yes the FM2 Athlons (and soon some good kaveri ones) are a good choice. A lot of people turn their nose up at FM2 though as it's primarily a mainstream integrated platform.

if my PC blew up tomorrow, not a part was salvageable, and I had to build a new one quick and cheap, that would be my choice.

I have a A8 lying around that overclocks to 4.7ghz at stock turbo vcore that I'd use :P

But yea budget PC gaming is more and more viable by the day which is nice to see :D
