780 or a 290.

I would get an 780

look for something with about 3gb VRAM, then you should be fine, with higher than 1080P you want as much VRAM as you can get.

A decent 780 (EVGA) is $680 here in Australia, while the MSi 290 is $540, what's up with that?

For 1440p it has to be a 780/290 or higher... if you wanna keep the Ultra details spec @ 1440p that is.

I got my 290-OC from MSY for $580 before they dropped in price a bit, and came with BF4 (didn't say so anywhere on box)

Bloody Loving it!!!!!

Maximums - Asus Z97-K /w i5 4690 Bclk @106.9Mhz * x39 = 4.17Ghz, 8GB of 2600Mhz DDR3,.. Gigabyte GTX970 G1-Gaming @ 1550Mhz

I've heard good things about MSi cards, never owned one, but then again neither have I owned a Gigabyte. Is the Windforce cooler worth it?

And also, I've heard some things about the temps of the 290, are all these things about people saying it runs at 95C true?

Stock coolers only, those blower ones don't cool it well enough and the temps rise to 94*c and then it throttles the coreclocks to maintain less heat.

So its VERY VERY bad under load, throttles and whatnot.

I have the Gigabyte Windforce version, and its quiet, capable, and performs great. HAS NEVER THROTTLED itself.

Running 1040mhz/1250mhz stock clocks, it never has NOT run at that speed during gameplay.

Bloody love it!

FYI - My older overclocked (1225mhz) GB-Windforce 7950 would top out at 73*c, this card tops out at 71-75*c (ambient variance) stock clocks and is all-round a better, faster card.

I also have NO side panel fans allowing to be installed, once I switch the case and add some fans sucking air out of the case into my room positioned where the cards blows the air out around itself, should be better.

depends on the cooler they were most likely talking about the reference card

If you have a side panel that allows 1-2 fans, get them to suck air out from beside the card into your room.

FYI - I tried sucking air inwards onto my older 7950 intakes, and lessened the temps a little here and there, not by a lot. but sucking air out I shaved off the max temp from 75-78*c to 68-75*c (Depending on game load)

^Really helped the case maintain lower temps and the CPU ran a little cooler as well.
