Low samba performance on raspi NAS

catmastah

Hi everyone,

I've got a raspberry pi 4 with an external 3,5'' 5500 rpm 2 TB disk attached to it via USB3. I've set up Samba on it, and I'm getting speeds ~28 MB/s while transferring data. With disk connected directly to my PC, I got around 100 MB/s. I have 1Gbit network link, everything is connected via Ethernet. CPU utilization is at 55% on single core. What can I do to bring performance up? Here's my smb.conf: https://pastebin.com/zmCEFhP4

On my PC I'm running Win 10.

Thanks in advance

Are you 100% sure your HDD enclosure is usb3 and you are really connected to the USB 3 ports on the Pi? Does the HDD have it's own power supply or does it rely on the pi? Because that might be a problem too

Yeah, the enclosure is USB3 and is plugged in to a USB3 port. It has its own power supply and sata command support so speeds should be good. I ran a disk speed test locally on the pi with fio and I got 115MiB/s bandwith, so that's probably working. Any ideas?
