So I’m fairly new to pc building. I built my first pc just in March 2020.

i now have a:

case: Coolmaster

CPU: Ryzen 5 1600

GPU: a New Zotac 3060 Ti

Motherboard: asrock b450 pro

Ram: (4 sticks) Viper 3000 mhz 4 GB

power supply: Evga BR 500

so recently I upgraded my GTX 1650 because I wanted to be able to play games at higher FPS and be able to play games like warzone. My pc would crash when playing certain games so I thought it was my GPU. Now uprgraded to my 3060 Ti I noticed that I still had the same crashes even though my games were running better. I had a cpu overlay that had it clocking at 75-85+ degrees then would crash(black screen) turn off.

any thoughts on how to fix this?

Your CPU really shouldn’t be getting that hot with a first gen ryzen part. Reapply the CPU thermal paste making sure there is enough to cover the entire chip (Usually a line about the size of a large pill is more than enough). Ryzen has chips that are more spread out than intel, so you want to make sure there is thermal paste across the whole chip.

Besides that make sure you don’t have any motherboard settings turned on that auto over clock like “CPU Game Mode” or “CPU Overdrive.”

Lastly, do you have enough fans in your case? make sure it has access to unobstructed fresh air for intake and exhausts out the hot air.

I presume its not overclocked, if the CPU fan seems to work then clean the CPU cooler and CPU and then reapply the thermal paste. 75C isn't really an issue but 85C+ is, as 95C is TJ Max as far as i know.

Thank you for the input. I plan on cleaning it out tomorrow as well as reapplying thermal paste

I can’t remember the name off the top of my head, it’s the fan that comes with the CPU itself.

That would be the Wraith Spire (non-rgb one) those ones are quite decent, so if the fan works alright it shouldn't be under normal circumstances an issue. I guess cleaning it, reapplying the paste is the first step towards troubleshooting this, if the problem persists, its either heat build up in the system (which usually shouldn't happen unless your living in a hot area) or like Sorenson said a troublesome option in the bios, if none of this works out then will have to look further into it, though what is clear is that first the rising temperature needs to be addressed.

Thank you, I really appreciate it. I plan on cleaning it out and buying/reapplying paste today. Then I will update this information.

So about a week of good CPU running under 75 degrees. I hop on tonight and it’s heating up again to 80-83. I’ve been monitoring it so I immediately stopped playing before it would crash, etc. double checked drivers, all fans are turned up to full speed. I’m unsure of what I’m missing.
