Just today I got my new Ryzen 5 3600 for my system. I was excited because my previous CPU seemed to bottleneck my rtx 2070, and it seemed I was right. I was getting more utilization and some games were up to 30fps faster, but then I looked at the cpu temps. When I was playing Far Cry 5 I was getting anywhere from 30 to 60 percent load on my cpu, yet my temps were at 80c, sometime even going above that. I found this odd so I downloaded prime 95 to do a stress test and monitor the cpu. After about 20 seconds of the test my cpu peaked at 90c. I know there was thermal paste since I used the stock cooler and I can see that the fan is moving, yet the temps I am getting are absolutely insane. I am looking at Ryzen master and my idle temp is 50c, but at random times I see it jump up to 60 then fall back down. Does anyone know what the problem could be?

Specs:

CPU: Ryzen 5 3600

Motherboard: B450 Tomahawk Max

GPU: RTX 2070

RAM: 16GB DDR4

Get a better cooler.

I'm thinking about it but still how can I be certain something is not up with the cpu? The max temp is like 95c but I've never seen it go this high, stock cooler or not, especially when it is at 40 to 70 percent load.

You can't, until you replace the cooler (and associated thermal paste) with something better.

Wraith stealth post-nerf sucks.

But it should be fine for most gaming situations, and 80c isn't the end of the world.

Alright I got a better cooler but the temps haven't lowered all that much. For sure there has been some improvement but I'm still getting like 50c idle and anywhere from 70 to 80c under load. I think it might be an issue with the voltage but I can't say for certain. The peak current limit tends to spike a lot and sometime goes red which seems to be the cause of a lot of heat. For now though I think I will stick with it since as long as its below 80 I should be fine.
