i5 8600k Idling between 40⁰c and 50⁰c

Go to solution Solved by Kilrah,

No. Just look at load temps, as long as that's good idle temps don't matter.

Hi, my CPU is an i5 8600k with no overclock and a Corsair H115i AIO although I am getting between 40⁰c and 50⁰c idling temps, when I first turn my pc on it is actually at high 70⁰c and then plateaus at 40 - 50.

I have tried re applying thermal paste multiple times (Artic MX-4 and some cooler master supplied thermal paste) and remounting the pump multiple times.

Please can somebody help me as I'm now just lost.

Idle temps are irrelevant.

And what if I was to overclock, I do usually run a 4.5ghz overclock on it although I don't think I can really do that now as the idle temps will probably be reaching 60⁰c with no load, surely that's a bit toasty for doing nothing?
