X570 vs B550?

OGKRG

PCIE 4.0 seems interesting, but I just need something reliable with decent overclocking capabilities. Going to be pairing it with a Ryzen 5 3600. There are so many options for brands and such, it's a little overwhelming, in the past I have used ASUS, MSI, ASRock and Biostar without any complaints, haven't touch the other companies though. Look at this thread as a, "If you had to get one motherboard for the Ryzen 5 3600 which would you get?" Keep in mind a reasonable price, $100-$200

Thanks!

B550 for sure.

These three are good options:

MSI B550-A PRO

MSI MAG B550 TOMAHAWK

ASRock B550 Phantom Gaming 4

I will recommend an NHu12s (or an NHd15 (maybe)) for your PC build. Quote or @ me @Prodigy_Smit for me to see your replies.

X570 is only useful if you need 3 m.2 slots, moren than 6 sata devices or more than 8 usb drives. Otherwise, there's no point.

Most entry level b550 boards from Asrock and msi are good, i'd only touch the mid range and higher end asus and gigabyte boards.

So to conclude, asrock pro 4, phantom gaming 4, msi pro-vdh, bazooka, mortar, a-pro, gaming plus, gaming edge, asus tuf, asus strix, gigabyte elite, pro (but atx, not matx) are all good

So basically the X570 is just a B550 but different chipset for extra fancy features onboard? I have a Samsung 860 Evo 500GB so I don't think I'm going to go the M.2 route anytime soon, but having at least one on the motherboard would be nice if I ever did want to try it out. The 860 EVO so far has impressed me versus my old OCZ TL 100, I am not sure if rapid mode is good or not so far, but I think it enables the DRAM Cache on the drive.

Will do buddy! What's ur thoughts on this case btw? Fractal Design Meshify C Black ATX Mid Tower Computer Case - Newegg.com it's on sale right now. Giving the girlfriend my HP ProDesk 600 G1 build and help her build that into something cause she plays Among Us, and MTG Arena XD but she has been getting into Cold War and some other games too. Slowly corrupting haha ^_^ I like cases with the PSU shroud, it looks really clean.

The fan on the Steel Legend looks goofy + it depends if u need the extra m.2 or not. Do a Newegg compare and see what features you like. I really the Extreme4 features.

Awesome! She's the one I'm going to get then!

This will be my full build: (I already have the SSD, GPU, PSU, OS, and Monitor) Kind of debating on getting a 5600x now, cause I found one on Facebook for $400 new, but the inflated price is like eh... I'll prob GPU upgrade next. What do you think would be the max the 3600 can handle? I really like these AMD drivers vs. Nvidia when I had my 1070, and with my monitor FreeSync, the input lag almost feels like 0ms compared to my Scpetre 144hz.

At 1080p probably a 3070 or so. Oh ya one thing I dont think you should go with a 3600 now. Buy an older temporary cpu and get the 5600x once prices are back to normal.

Same with the GPU hold on to the 570 and get a 3060ti or 3070 when prices are back to normal.

1600 then? I don't think that'll run on a B550 will it? AMD Desktop Ryzen 5 1600 65W AM4 Processor with Wraith Stealth Cooler - Newegg.com

3100 is better in gaming than 1600 and is also supported by b550 boards.

I wouldn't pay 400 for the 5600x, i'd wait for it to get to 300

I agree with this 100%

Is the 3100 better than the 3600 tho? Cause it is a $15 price difference that’s what I meant 🤣 I’ll prob rock the 3600 for. While until prices settle.

unless I snag it used.

Hey @Prodigy_SmitI found a Ryzen 5 2600 used for $100? good price or offer less, thinking of getting that since it seems on par with the 7700K and I'll get that cheap to save for a 5600x or something newer. Still going for the Extreme4 B550 tho.

Go for a 3600 if its only 15 dollars more than the 3100 if you can find it used for like 130 then go for that. The 2600 offer like 85 and see if he accepts the extra cores might help in productivity.
