Hello,

recently my PC kept crashing. After some troubleshooting and some more crashing, I found that my CPU was overheating. I was using an AMD ryzen 5 3600 with the stock cooler. So I changed my cooler and everything works, but i want to know if the CPU is damaged or if it's fine.

Hi and welcome. If your CPU works, it should be fine. Modern CPUs can protect themselves by shutting the system down before getting too hot. Unless you experience weird hiccups or memory missing in windows, don't worry about it.

I wouldn’t worry. If it was damaged, you’d probably be noticing instability. Maybe you shaved off some of its lifespan. I’ve done worse over the years. Everyone that’s been in the PC hobby for a long time has.

Depends for how long.

While CPU's have built in thermal safeguards running a chip too hot for extended periods is frankly not great for them. Constant excessive heat will slowly damage a chip over time.

This is one of the contributors as to why you never want to buy a used chip that has been overclocked (this goes for both CPU's and GPU's).

If we are talking about weeks you are probably fine and I wouldn't worry about it.
