Backup / sync software

I remember watching a video a while back that linus did on the server room, in which he mentioned about how the editing server backs up to the local backup server. One of it's features was the fact that if someone deleted a file a copy would stay on the backup server. I can't for the life of me find the video where he explained this, or can I even find the software that does this. 

Does anyone have any pointers as where to find this software or at least something that does the same job?
