i go over to my friends house all the time and he has an alienware (1400$) and i thought i would be cool to build a pc that would outperform his at half the price. His has a sandy i7 (mobile) and a 660m and it doesnt even play bf4 so i was wondering if this would outperform his?

Yes it would outperform it. Alienware's are over priced imo and also its a mobile processor and gpu so going to be much slower, you're sort of limited by what you can fit inside a laptop.

Yep, pretty well too. I bet if you do even a little overclocking, you can get 60fps on Ultra w/Mantle

I had a 270x for a while that was at stock speeds that could play BF4 at ultra settings at 60fps w/Mantle :)

Yes.

Yep, it would run it pretty well.

Yus!

great! im really happy how this turned out! now i just need to find some peripherals that would keep the price down ..... hmmmm

ok, i was just stating a fact, but i went for 990fx for overclocking :)

I'm going to say that CPU <<<<<< GPU.

If you are on this much of a budget I recommend you care more about the GPU, overclocking is irrelevant compared to much more performance you can get from a better GPU vs Overclocking. Overclocking is really a joke when it comes to purely game performance in most cases. Getting a GTX 770 or R9 280x will do you more good than hitting 4.2 Ghz on the CPU.

LOL I didn't read that. I know someone at my school that got (i think the $800 one) with the GT630 and i7 (whatever it is) and his parents think it was the best gift ever.

I shouldn't say that it was his fault though, I was going to help him build one, but his parents got it for him before he could say anything. It's kinda sad people fall for those things lol

ok then like 70-80$ but why not get a strong cpu then over time upgrade the gpu?

because it's silly, currently CPU is just something you need in the background unless you do something more intense than gaming that requires you have an 8 core or higher IPC. Just get a better CPU you will get better results.

LOL, when I was first building my PC I was waiting for money from selling my old laptop. I used my mom's macbook (probably the same one) and got 20FPS ON LOW SETTINGS. It's a great PC for my mom, just anything intensive just crushes it lol.

It also ramps the fan up to 100% when watching netflix so there's also that lol.

I'd much easier to get a 6300 and a decent 970/990 fx board, then upgrade to an 8320/8350 later on if you absolutely need it.

99% of games rely on the GPU, as long as you have 4 cores/threads that are decently speedy, you'll be fine.

bf4 is quite reliant on CPU too, but thats only 25% of the equation.

Stuff:  i7 7700k @ (dat nibba succ) | ASRock Z170M OC Formula | G.Skill TridentZ 3600 c16 | EKWB 1080 @ 2100 mhz  |  Acer X34 Predator | R4 | EVGA 1000 P2 | 1080mm Radiator Custom Loop | HD800 + Audio-GD NFB-11 | 850 Evo 1TB | 840 Pro 256GB | 3TB WD Blue | 2TB Barracuda

yea but minecraft is very cpu intensive, do you think i could get a 4670k in this price range with the 270?

Minecraft is CPU intensive, but you're gonna get 500 FPS no matter what CPU you choose basically, lol.

You could probably squeeze in a 4670k + a decent z87 board, but it'll be closer to 700-750$ then, and it wouldn't really add any benefits over the 8320.
