Hi all, I've had this happen for quite a long time (well over a year) but I'm finally in a position where hopefully I can fix it if it's what I think it is.

I have an AMD RX480 8gb and 8gb of ram and an AMD Ryzen 5 2600 Six-Core Processor 3.40GHz running on 64 bit Windows 10 with a Corsair CX 750W PSU. In most games I get these wierd black squares flicker all over my screen and I have no clue why.

The games run fine, the clips below are from Cyberpunk 2077 which runs at about 40-60fps on High settings, 60+ on medium and low so the performance isn't effected at all and the games it happens on/doesn't happen on is just wierd.

If I play Overwatch/Battlefield 1 then it's fine, no graphical glitches whatsoever but if I try playing WoW/Fortnite/Cyberpunk they're EVERYWHERE, fortnite is by far the worst for it.

Is this my card artifacting? I can afford to buy another one but don't want to fork out if that's not the issue so does anyone have any advise or opinions?

Huh, it may be an odd quiescence that WOW/Fortnite/Cyberpunk all have Ray tracing. But see if that setting is on by chance somehow.

that card is at least a good 2 generations too old to have ray tracing lol

That's what I thought the artifacting was caused by. Clearly that's not the issue though. Any ideas?

if there is one, a factory overclock can be causing artifacting on this somewhat aging gpu.

i would try underclocking that rx 480 to either 1266mhz or 1250mhz.

some games just hate overclocks on some gpu's while other dont, fortnite is one of those games that despise overclocks on rx 480's and 580's for some reason.

while rocket league and grounded honestly couldnt care less.

but.. even with my rx 580 pulling almost 270w while at 1525mhz it still cant handle grounded at 1080p lol..

No dice I'm afraid, still getting the flickering

if your gpu hasnt always been doing this then it might be a failing gpu, hopefully the gpu can tank it a little longer until amd released their budget 6000 series cards

I've had it for a few years but it didn't do it until about just over a year ago, are you thinking it's a failing GPU as well? Do they normally last this long?

It doesn't affect gameplay performance but I'm sick of not being able to play simple games without seeing this all over my screen.

personally, nah i think the gpu isnt failing, a failing gpu would be more like you entire desktop artifacting and then completely freezing or if it turns to a sold color and becomes unresponsive while your on the desktop.

so it may be a driver issue? yes newer drivers do generally have better performance but.. i doubt its that much of an increase.. so use the amd cleanup tool and just use the drivers that come with your gpu? (https://www.amd.com/en/support/kb/faq/gpu-601)

but asides from that there isnt much you can do.

Hi thanks for the suggestion I'll definitely try it.

At the risk of sounding stupid, how do I get my factory set driver? The AMD website is only showing 2020 releases.
