Possible problem with my PSU (Thermaltake DPS G 600W)

TheBolstein

Hello,

I'm having problems with my PC. I have had two graphics cards die, first one was a month ago. The PC would turn on, but the image wouldn't show. Second one died 2 days ago, the PC wouldn't even turn on. At first I thought that it was the motherboard, since the graphics card was receiving power. Talking to a friend on Discord, he recommended that I take out the GPU, since he thought that the CPU or the GPU might be killed. After taking the GPU out and putting in a back-up one (some AMD hd7000 graphics card) the PC turned on. He added that the PSU might be at fault. Could it actually be a PSU, how do I check it, can I get something for the two dead GPUs from the manufacturer?

Which PSU are you using (make and model)?

If you do some investigating, and CAN prove / confirm the PSU is the component that killed your 2 graphics cards, then you may be able to get compensation.

The model is Thermaltake SPG-600DH2CCB (DPS G 600W). I also don't know how to prove that the PSU is at fault.

That PSU is a total complete POS so yeah I would say the PSU fried your GPUs.

Likely a 99.9% chance.

I doubt it.

Budget PSU, and one of the worst PSUs you can get, almost impossible to make a case.

Goes to you get what you pay for.

Now if was one of their high end models and something happened then I could see they might do something.

What PSUs would you recommend, cause I read somewhere that thermaltake wasn't that bad. Now I know that it's complete garbage

They do have like 3 models that are good.

The rest are junk.

Never buy any PSU just based on brand name, they all and I do mean all make garbage and also make good models.

They all have to cut quality to fit into different budget ranges, nothing is free in this world and you do get what you PAY FOR.

Especially when it comes to computer parts.

Look at the tier list here and pick something in Tier A or B.

Yesterday I was wondering, if the PCI express cable could be at fault? Since I think that if the PSU is killing graphics cards than it would most likely kill anything else that is in the PC.

Sorry I didn't read the text after writing. Since it's a modular PSU, could one of the plugs that I use for the PCI cable be at fault? Or is that also a no?
