should i overclock?

hello i have an intel i8 i think that ive had for 4+ years and was wondering if i should try to overclock.

There is no intel i8 CPU. Do you have an i7, please be specific. Also, what is your motherboard and CPU cooler?

Two things.

1. There is no such thing as a Core i8.

2. If you mean a Core i7 or a Core 9, it depends on what motherboard, CPU, and CPU cooler you have.

it must be an i7 8700k then i have a Asus ROG Strix Z390-E mobo, and its a cooler master hyper 212.

There weren't i9's 4 years ago, so it'd be a i7 or maybe 8th gen.

What is the model of your CPU? It should be i7-XXXX and the letters after it

Are you sure? You said you’ve had it for 4+ years. The 8700k is 3 years old

With the 212 evo you could do some slight over clocking but I wouldn’t recommend going to high. What are your current temps at stock?

im really bad with dates so it could only be 3 years ago i know for a fact that it is and 8700k

Welcome to the forums!!!

 

Before overclocking with that CPU, I would recommend upgrading your CPU cooling system from the Hyper 212  to a beefer air cooler such as the Noctua NH-D15 or a be Quiet! Dark Rock (Pro) to keep temperatures down.

 

For right now though, is the 8700K not giving you the performance that you are expecting it? Do you just want to do it for fun?

You can check temperatures using a HWinfo64- great hardware monitoring software and its free. Their sensor readings are more accurate than HWMonitor.

a little bit of both when im playing AAA games its low frames after i just upgraded to a 2060 dual overclock

my CPU temps are at 40 for all cores.

So your CPU utilization is pretty high and your GPU 's utilization is low? That would lead to a CPU bottleneck.

the app that you sent says my cores are running at 4300MHz is this CPU already overclocked?

That can be a turbo boost (Max Turbo Frequency is 4.7GHz on a 8700K).

There is basically no performance benefit in games when upgrading from an 8700k to a 9900k. Don't do it.
