Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: AC Odyssey, Cyberpunk 2077

 

Running on 2080ti, 3440x1440 resolution, games on SSD, 16GB ram 1600Mhz (2x8)

 

Is it worth upgrading from i7 4790k (OC at 4.8Ghz) to ryzen 5 5600x solely in terms of FPS in games? (listed above)?

 

My current problem is:

Cyberpunk 2077, ultra, rtx on

CPU around 75% usage to 96%

GPU sits still on 92%

City: 40 - 55 fps / Interior (Afterlife Club): 58 - 64

 

Seems like GPU is bottlenecking (resolution duh!) but I've got confirmation that i5-10600k with 2060S performs arounds 72fps in City, which totally rendered me puzzled about what to upgrade.

Yeah, I’d go with a 5600x. Just save the rest of your money for a better GPU later down the line

Will  this upgrade actually raise FPS? Clocks on that CPU are lower than what I have while having + 2 cores

Instructions Per Clock have gone up over the years so yeah it should, how ever there is a bug in Cyberpunk 2077 currently but there is a user fix to resolve the issue over at reddit and Youtube... TLDR of the bug the devs are terrible!

I'm having the same 4790k and I consider to go with a 5600X for better FPS.. My Graphics is a 1070 right now.

I wonder if the community-bugfix @Nena Trinity talked about might change FPS as I was also reading on some german tech-sites and another good english one..

I would like to know if this fix comes with better fps.

btw: in one of his videos (cyberpunk on his super awesome tv) linus said, that mixing rtx and dlss is not good, but cyberpunk defaults to this options... if I remeber correctly..

Hi, that depends on what resolution you game on, on full HD upgrading CPU would boost FPS, but in 4k - 4790k is sufficient.

 

Watch this (ignore dumb thumbnail, guy explains very well the connection between resolution and CPU/GPU)

 

 

I've applied this fix, nothing changed (but I saw that before fix only few cores were used, after fix all cores used, but nothing in terms of FPS changed)

 

If you're gaming >1080p, I'd highly recommend buying 3070 or even better wait for 3070TI

If you're gaming on 1080p then 5600x might be good choice.
