Budget (including currency):

Country: Canada

Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: Autocad 2D

Other details (existing parts lists, whether any peripherals are needed, what you're upgrading from, when you're going to buy, what resolution and refresh rate you want to play at, etc):

I'm building a workstation for a landscape architect. Can anyone provide any insight into what components are important and features to look for?

You’re providing next to no information.

What’s the budget? What is their current system? Are they a professional or a hobbyist?

What’s “Autocad 2D”? Are you referring to AutoCAD LT?

Just a normal "good CPU + enough memory and storage + not bad graphics card" is enough. what you should get still depends on budget and project complexity however.

never heard of Autocad 2D but I would assume that you don't need a fancy gpu as its just 2D work and not 3D.

so any modern cpu (newer than i5 9th gen or i7 7th gen for intel option) or (newer than r5 3rd gen or r7 2nd gen for amd option)\

at least 16gb 3000mhz

at least a 1660 super

at least 400W power supply

hopefully you can afford at least 500gb ssd (m.2)
