hi

i have an old router from FlyingVoice it's the g801, i need to use that router as a wireless access point, i have alredy tried to set an IP in the range of the main router and i have disabled the DHCP in the g801.

when i connect a pc nothing bad happens but when i connect the secondary router to the main one i lose internet connection throughout the whole network, the main router report a 100 Mb traffic all from the secondary router and the cpu goes to 100%

i can't figure out where i have done something wrong.

thank you

PS: i can send photos in case you need

Are those the settings on the G801? If so, doesn’t it have a section for “operation mode” that you can toggle to be ‘AP’? Looks like a DD-WRT interface. Furthermore, there should be no ‘Internet’ settings for the G801 as it’s not being used as a gateway.

Your gateway address cannot be the G801’s IP address. It must be the internal IP address of the primary router.

Finally, when you have the G801 set up properly in AP mode, the ethernet cable coming from the primary router should be plugged into the LAN port of G801, not the WAN port.

done, but it still send the 100Mb to the main router😭

Is it sending a 100mbps of data to the router or limiting to a 100, if its limiting then the only thing you can do is buy a gbe switch and run cable from that to the devices that need gbe

no guys i know that the g801 have only fast ethernet ports, but when i connect a cable frome the main to the g801, instantaniously the g801 start sending the 100mb to the main (it sends 100mb packets to the main router, it's not that it connects at the speed of 100mb)

What is that ethernet cable plugged into at the other end?

Are you getting that information from your computer's Task Manager monitor?

it is plugged into a gigabit switch which is connected to the main router

i am getting the information from a windows server machine that is my DHCP, DNS, and pfsense main router (in a vm)

Did you ensure that all PPPoE/internet settings were removed from the G801?

How long does activity from the G801 persist after immediately plugging it in with no other devices attached?

I’m seeing that the G801 is sold on Alibaba. Can you confirm if it is a Chinese-made device?

If you run network monitoring tools like Glasswire, does it confirm that the data is coming from the G801 and can it tell you where it’s going?

i am sure because i set wan port to not have an IP, the activity persist i think forever because i've waited for 20 minutes and it never stopped, i have recived it as an ISP router, i haven't bought it.

i'm  going to try but i am quite sure the data comes from it, i'll send a photo of glasswire

glasswire do not see the traffic coming from the g801 i think

the router have been connected for 2-3 minutes and as always it have sent the 100mb but i can't see them from glasswire

You have the G801 on a completely different subnet, so it’s unlikely that Glasswire will be able to see its activity. Did you have a specific reason for putting it on a different subnet?

no i don't

i have a network which came from a fritzbox that have ip lik 192.168.1.x and i have another network coming from a 4g SIM, i use pfsense to loadbalance the 2 internet lines, but in the network from the fritz i have some devices, here's why you saw them in glasswire, btw the server is connected to the pf sense network too

As per your previous screenshot, the G801 is configured to use the IP 192.168.2.2, but you seem to be running the scan from a 192.168.1.x IP. That’s why I asked.

BTW, other than seeing line activity coming from the G801, does this cause any problem for attached devices?

Yes, when the line goes to 100mb nothing in the network can connect to internet

OK. Several pieces of homework for you:

  • Can you sketch a diagram of how your devices are connected and label with IP/subnets?
  • It would be interesting to see what Glasswire or any network monitoring app picks up as coming from the G801 to cause loss of your WAN connection. Seems like it might be saturating the connection. Did you completely reset the G801 before configuring it to switch/AP mode?
  • You never confirmed from my previous post if those were the IP assignments you're using.
  • Also, what is being reported within pfSense itself with regards to resources being used and port activity that the G801 is attached to?
  • Honestly, if this is causing so much problems, I'd be hesitant of keeping it. Just replace with a good access point from a reputable brand and be done with it.

i have resetted the g801 at least 5 times until now 🤣, however yes i have resetted it up even before writing on the forum.

yes their are the IP that i use.

i can't access pfsense when the G801 in attached to the network, the g801 port activity goes crazy when is plugged in the network (blinks super fast).

at this point i think that the best solution is to throw away the 801 and buy a new AP.

BTW here's my network setup.
