Best controller (for rocket league)?

My controller broke. (using on PC)

What should I get?
Xbox one controller, ps5 controller, something different, something aftermarket? Thoughts? I am willing to spend a bit more than normal.

xbox one controller has been the most convenient for me. there's no major functional difference between a play station controller or xbox controller, just the position of the left stick and buttons, but you have to do extra work for a PS4 controller to work on windows.

I WILL find your ITX build thread, and I WILL recommend the SIlverstone Sugo SG13B

Primary PC:

i7 8086k - EVGA Z370 Classified K - G.Skill Trident Z RGB - WD SN750 - Jedi Order Titan Xp - Hyper 212 Black (with RGB Riing flair) - EVGA G3 650W - dual booting Windows 11 and Fedora Linux - Black and green theme, Razer brainwashed me.

Draws 400 watts under max load, for reference.

How many watts do I need?

You don't need to do any extra work for a Ps4 controller to work on windows 10. You plug it in via USB and then it just works. I know because I've just got one.

You only need to install more software if you want the track pad to work, but you have a mouse, so why bother.

Wouldn't switching hand from game controller to mouse be awkward?

For universal usage, the direct input vs X input scheme have some differences. Some games work with direct input but basically everything works with x input.

I don't know about rocket league specifically so if the ps4 controller works then that's great. But then it just boils down to preference.
