How should I go about clearing the cmos, I've never done it before.

Turn off the switch on your PSU, and open your casing side panel

You'll have to locate a pair of pins that's labelled CLR_CMOS or smth, refer to your motherboard manual for that

They're normally on the bottom right of the board, locate and short them with something conductive for 5 seconds, and then power your rig back on

This will remove any bios settings you made, including docp/XMP profiles, but that's fine, we want to test on the default settings as that's most likely the most stable

You're right about that, but they wanna keep it even between all the siblings. I buy everything I want myself so it puts me in this situation lmao, I already have a good setup in terms of peripherals.

Here is my specs, maybe something in here could use an upgrade but I don't think so.

GPU: MSI Ventus OC RTX 3080

CPU: Intel I7-8700

RAM: 16GB G.SKILL DDR4 3600

MOBO: MSI MPG Z390 (Bios version 7B17vAB)

SSD: Samsung EVO 970 1tb, Samsung EVO 860 500gb, WD Blue 1tb

PSU: Corsair 750W Gold (5-6 years old)

CASE: ECLIPSE P400S (Its an older version than this one but its the same design)

this to a 9900k, i suppose

if you absolutely had to spend money lol

if you're keen, you could sell your cpu and motherboard, and try to get a 5800x + B550/X570 board

Even with selling both parts, $800 for the CPU alone is a bit steep

-thinks- if that's the price it's going for (i dont doubt it lmao)

then 9900k makes more sense

perf wise, not too diff, it's still one of the top gaming chips

Remember this is in CAD prices as well, so numbers might seem a bit high.

I'll probably just pull the trigger on the i9-9900k, but do you think I might run into some PSU issues if I try to overclock it?

400W from GPU, 200W from cpu, that's 600W only, and that's with a lot of headroom

assuming rest of system draws 50W, you're still 100W below your psu's limit

you're safe
