Hey guys,

I bought the Kingston SSD mS200 mSATA 6Gb/s SSD - 60 GB and I upgraded my Asus 901 notebook, however, when I turn it on, after a few seconds after it starts reading it, it switches off!

What do I do? What's wrong with it? I made sure that all screws are in place, but it does not work! Please Help!

What has been done so far?    Is it the boot drive?  Have you installed an OS on the mSATA yet?  There are two mSATA in your system, correct?  a small 4GB boot msata and a 2nd, larger 8 or 16GB storage msata.  Which one were you replacing?

*edit:  maybe the bios just needs to be updated in order to handle the higher capacity msata boot drive?  I was reading this article here where the guy upgraded from the small 4GB boot drive to a 64GB like you are doing.  http://blog.binarymist.net/2013/05/25/upgrade-linux-eee-pc-901-4gb-ssd/   He updated the bios before beginning.  Can you reinstall the old msata, upgrade bios, then try installing the new msata?

*edit2:  here is another walkthrough:  http://www.laptopmag.com/advice/how-to/revive-your-netbook.aspx?showall=1

Did you follow a walkthrough?  If so, can you post the link?

Well, what happens is, as I said, when I put the new msata, and switch it on, it turns off after 10 seconds, without having anything on the screen and without even reading the msata... Ok I will try to update the bios, hope that helps :)

Actually, I just replaced the SSD in my own 901 and hit a similar problem. I took it apart again and found the problem was the new SSD. It's a slightly narrower form factor than the original and I'd not bothered to scew it down as only 1 screw could be made to fit and then only by inserting the card at a very (VERY) slight angle. Second time around I screwed down one corner of the card and reassembled. (This was only about 5 hours ago BTW!) The machine now boots and recognises the new SSD at BIOS level. However, I could not get it to restore XP as the Asus restore disc doesn"t seem to recognise the drive. I suspect ths is a reasonably well known problem with a special partition needed on the drive, but I've not yet delved into that. Ubuntu 12.04 installled straight away and runs very well.

Sorry to necro this but this post is coming up very highly in google results so it seems the best place to reply.

I'm sure part of your problem is because the Eee 901 doesn't have mSATA connectors. It has mini PCIe connectors. They have the same form factor parts, and same connector shape, but the pinouts are different. Yes, they must have actually been stupid 10 years ago when designing these things.

Parts must be specifically mini PCIe for the 901.
