i have a 1650S - i7 4790 build that comes from a kinda old office pc (the case, the mb and the cpu where "included") 

i'm using this a lg 24mp58vq (1080p, ips, 60hz, 5ms) and i'm getting like a lot of tearing, some game have like crazy amount (like a fricking ton) some have just lil bit and some have none even with v-sync off

 

i sometime get tearing even when i'm looking at friend's streaming on discord

i know that i can fix all of these by enabling v-sync but i hate input lag and at this point i'm also wondering why i get this inconsistent results and does it all really depend on the monitor?

 

can it be the old motherboard? or maybe a bad hdmi cable? or maybe it's a monitor thing but is just because my unit is defective 

 

maybe it's all software and i'm not aware of that

 

i've played on many 60hz builds (some mine, some of friends) and i've never never ever seen this much tearing

Tearing is caused by the refresh rate of your monitor and the "refresh rate" (or fps) of your GPU. If those two don't sync up and the GPU changes the image to display halfway through the monitors refresh cycle you get tearing. Fixed by enabling V-Sync to make the GPU swap its image whenever the monitor starts a new refresh cycle or by using something like adaptive sync (G-sync/Free sync) where the monitor starts a new refresh cycle whenever the GPU has a new image (provided that refresh rate is within its limits).

Simply put, your GPU sending "frames" to the monitor between loading cycles.

 

I'm not actually trying to be as grumpy as it seems.

60Hz is 60Hz. It shouldn't matter what monitor. Tearing occurs when the frame buffer changes midway through the monitor drawing the frame. You have to play around with the NVIDIA Control panel to find your personal preferred tradeoff between latency and tearing etc. For me, It's GSYNC, Fast vertical sync, ultra low latency mode, and a 160 FPS limit on a 165Hz display.
