I'd just leave it checked to make sure you will get everything you need to run your games properly every time. They won't install new instances every time, but install over existing ones. Sometimes the programs even regognize there is a newer version installed.

If someone did not use reason to reach their conclusion in the first place, you cannot use reason to convince them otherwise.
