Build for Q1 2021

MrHeavy

Hello everyone, I'd have a question, actually I'd need a recommendation..
Currently I am rocking an FX8320, R9 270 and 6gb of DDR3 Ram (yea, pretty old and weird)..

I am planning to make an upgrade but I am not ready to give out 1.5k euros at once, so I wasn't sure what would be the first thing I should upgrade..
The plan is to go for an Ryzen 7 5700x, 32gb of ram first, or Should I first go for a Graphics card like an RTX 3070?

I do play a lot of games, been doing that for a long time, but I also do sound work in Cubase, I use a lot of VST instruments, ect.
I am just not sure which part of my pc needs the upgrade first.
I'd buy the first part of the machine probably around the first quarter of 2021, I guess the stocks will be available then..

Thank you kind strangers.

TL;DR

Do I buy a R7 5700x plus ram or an RTX 3070 first?

If you're able to get the 3070 at a reasonable price, get that first. It would be very hard to find one, so don't pass one up. 5800X should be widely available much sooner than the 3070.

well for gaming you should prioritize having the gpu first.

Do you mean 5800x? there's no 5700x... anyways, you have to get a new motherboard in order to upgrade anything else. Gpu might be exception, but I don't know if it works with an old motherboard. However, a 5800x, 32 gb of ram and 3070 is a good part list! Just know that intel is releasing rocket lake in q1 2021.

@Duckster

No, I really meant 5700x which should be out at Q1 2021..
I don't really mind the new motherboard, it is time to upgrade everything, so yeah, I counted on that too.. I just don't want to bottleneck my pc with an RTX 3070 while running an FX8320 and 6gb of ram..

8 core rocket lake should around $400 to be competitive with ryzen 5800x. which i doubt it will.

@SupaKomputa I didn't go for Intel since my intel dual core e6600, not sure about going back to Intel.. Ryzen has been crushing the game lately, so I am not even thinking about switching to the blue side.

Do you need an 8 core? 5600x is very good it you are heavy on games.

Your DAW might be 100% faster even with 5600x.

5700x is still rumour, no signs of AMD releasing it.

They will release 5600 first to fill the budget segment.

@SupaKomputa Feels like a Ryzen 7 is just more future proof, because I don't plan on upgrading again in the next 6 years probably..

So, my current needs don't require it, but my future would.. :)

@MrHeavy

I agree with @SupaKomputa, get a 5600x. However, if you have vsts that utilize multiple cores (cubase utilizes multiple cores), I think 5700x or 5800x is good. (5700x might be slower than 5600x in games considering 5800x just barely beats 5600x.)

Getting a 5600x is futureproof enough, unless you want to spend another $150 for 5800x.

For $150 you can get 6800xt with 16gb instead of 3070.

With AM4 you can get it up to 16 cores, you might want that 6 years later.

Get 5600x first, try it, and if 3-6 months later you're not satisfied with the Performance, get the 8 core.

I'm sure it will be sold less than a day.
