Which is which?

Hi :D

Which one should I go first,
Purpose: Gaming ang occasion content creation (digital painting and 2d animation)

a.) Upgrade CPU  (2200G to Ryzen 3 3100 or Ryzen 5 3600)

b.) Upgrade motherboard (A320M to B450M)

c.) Buy new monitor

Budget is around USD 200, and assuming I live in US.
Thanks :D

CPU - Ryzen 5 5600X  GPU - AMD RX 6600 XT (8GB)   Monitors: HKC M24A9X 24" 75HZ Monitor & XP-Pen Artist 12 Display Tablet

Mobo - MSI B550M Bazooka         SSD - Samsung 970 EVO Plus (500GB)       PSU - Seasonic Core GC 650W 80+ Gold

RAM - DDR4 32GB (8GBx4) 2400MHz       HDD - WD Blue 3.5in 1TB

I saw that the US pricing for the 3100 is a bit f-ed up for some reason. In UK at least you'd be able to get a B450 Pro4 and a r3 3100 for about 200$/£.

But I'd suggest getting the 3100 first, then the motherboard, then the monitor.

You can hardly find 3rd gen ryzen and b450 motherboards used at a reasonable price below MSRP. In UK a used 3100 costs just as much as it does new, or even more sometimes, and you can hardly find any used motherboard that aren't bad.

Thought it wouldn't be a bad idea getting a used monitor. They can be quite a lot cheaper than buying new.

I never got bad parts from the used market, but its preatty relible here, its bit of personal preferance and how much you trust people

It's like 290$, and it's only about 20-30$ cheaper than the 3700X.

I base the used market based on their risk level.

CPU - Ryzen 5 5600X  GPU - AMD RX 6600 XT (8GB)   Monitors: HKC M24A9X 24" 75HZ Monitor & XP-Pen Artist 12 Display Tablet

This was my original path of upgrading if I choose CPU Upgrade.

ryzen 3 3100 > B550M > Monitor

If I choose MoBo Upgrade:

B450M > Ryzen 3 3100 > B550M > Monitor

I don't see the point in getting a B450 motherboard just to plan to throw it away. Anyway, you can get a B550M Steel Legend for about 110$ which is a really solid motherboard for the price.

Regardless, it might be pointless since new AMD cpu's will probably come on a new platform perhaps AM5. It's just better to get a B550 to start with. There's plenty of good value B550 boards anyway.

Yes the 3100 does work on a320, however your motherboard may require a bios update. Also I suggest checking the CPU support list for the motherboard just to make sure.
