Not sure how to get rid of this virus in my windows folder.

This thing pops up in my task manager and takes up a bunch of my computer's resources when it's idle. I've deleted it and recycled it, but it came back again. It's obviously a virus. The file's named "wtf" and the "company name" is "lol". Antivirus won't even pick it up. It's very annoying and i don't want to wipe my entire system. What can i do about this, forum? i appreciate any and all help. Thank you.

No files in there. It's just an executable that eats up resources. I'm thinking it's a mining virus, idk.

Yeah it probably is. Have you been on any sketchy sites where you have could get it?

There are a few ways i could have gotten it, so it's definitely not out of nowhere. I just wanna get rid of it and start being more cautious lol

In task mgr right-click, open file location and delete it.

Tried that, it came back after a few hours of idling. I have a malware scanner set up now though. So if it comes back again, i'll just slap it off again. If that doesn't stop it, i'll wipe everything.

Default windows stuff. I should probably tee up on my protection huh. Never had a problem in my 6 years of having this PC. I installed HitmanPro like you suggested and it detected the malware and removed it. If it comes back i'll quarantine it. If that doesn't work, will just wipe everything no problem.

@i5Wrath Just out of curiosity, what antivirus software are you using and what version is it in terms of freeware, paid or else.

HitmanPro is a very powerful software that is why I always recommend it.

As for Windows Defender I suggest you take a look at the following software called ConfigureDefender: https://github.com/AndyFul/ConfigureDefender

I recommend trying out the MAX protection level and if something does not work for you, try changing some settings.

I have learned about this program from the following channel:

(And I recommend it if you want to learn some more about security now that you have been hit by one of the threats).

I do not require glory, only results.
