For about 6 months I keep getting the same error over and over and over while playing games. I've contacted NVIDIA and Windows tech support but they were not able to help. I really hope someone can help me.

What I tried:

-Updating windows (now a total of a 30 updates maybe)

-Updating Videocard drivers (even more times including a total deïnstallation and reïnstallation.)

-Updating every other driver I could think of.
-turning every performance/quality setting I could find to performance and later to quality

-restored windows to factory settings

-placing a cooler under the laptop

-brought the laptop to a reperation service and the videocard was not damaged at all (it runs better then it actually should)

Any other idea?

My specs:

-Videocard - IntelHD graphics 4000

-2nd videocard - NVIDIA GeForce 710M 2GB GDDR3 VRAM (Good enough for me. I get over 60fps on low while playing BF3.)

-Intel i7-3632QM

-8GB 1600Mhz DDR3 RAM

-windows 8 64-bit

Games I've played that caused problems:

-Battlefield 3 and 4

-Magica

-Orcs must die 2 (Orcs must die 1 does not have any problems at all)

-Need for speed: Hot Pursuit (The run and Rivals run without problems)

-A few other games I hardly play.

What happens:

1. I start the game and runs normally

2. I play for 10-15 minutes without problems

3. screen goes black for a second or two and I get an error that warns me that I'm out of memory. (see screenshot below (right message))

4. I click on cancel.

5. repeat stap 2, 3 and 4 about 2 or 3 times.

6. a different error pops up and I'm forced to close the game. (See screenshot below (left message))

7. I click 'ok'

8.1 The game closes and nothing else happens or;

8.2 The game closes and all of the icons on my desktop disappear or;

8.3 The game closes and all of the icons on my desktop disappear and my wallpaper disappears so it is all blue (I chose that colour because of the start menu and overall colour of windows)

8.4 The game closes and the screen turns black and flashes white a few times untill I get a bluescreen.

I can also ignore the first error message so I do not get spammed anymore by the messages. But when I close the game because I want to stop, then one of things at step 8 still happens. I've not seen any damage to my laptop, but I'm afraid it will damage my laptop eventually.

Sidenote, when I get the errors then the activity of my Intel HD graphics is about 30%, of my GeForce 710M is 99%, CPU is around 60-70% and RAM is 40-70% (depends on how many pages I have open in my browser)

I see "GPU: Intel HD Graphics: 4000" I'm confused to why your laptop is not using the Nvidia card...

the 710m uses nvidia optimus, so the discrete gpu is only used when he runs an application that needs ALL THE POWER of the Nvidia GeForce GT 710m FTW  being a douchebag here

OP:

can you verify if BF is running on the nvidia gpu? you should minimize the application when you run it, and check in the system tray, there should be a tray icon dedicated to optimus which will tell you which applications are making use of the discrete gpu

edit:

a lot of people seem to have experienced this problem before, with both nvidia and amd cards, from low end to high end, but i couldn't find an "officially working" solution

try running a memtest

maybe grapics card vram has died it says it needs more than 512mb

I brought my laptop to a repair service and they tested the card to the max. No problems. Also GPU-Z tells me everything is fine.

I'm 100% sure it is using the right GPU. I checked it over 100 times in the last year. I want to show it to you but I do not have something where I can upload the picture.. (I'm pretty new here so I do not know eveything about these forums yet)

Thanks for trying! But any other suggestions?

I had the exact same problem when I used to play BF3. It may sound absurd but I fixed it by installing old video card drivers and by old I mean VERY old. By those drivers the game ran smoothly and never gave any problems. You should try it and when new drivers get released install them. Hope this helps...

Humpty Dumpty was pushed.

Thanks. i'll try to find them. Any idea how I can find the drivers?

(Edit: Just had the crash '8.3'... My wallpaper is gone untill the next time I'll start my laptop and so are the icons. And more things do not work anymore. I had to restart internet to use it again and I have to start every other application that was running..)

Well the last time I did it, I used 314.xx drivers.. It worked for me, sorry for that. Just trying to help

Oh, sorry, It wasn't because I installed other drivers. I was just playing Battlefield because I couldn't find the drivers. I'm going to search for those drivers now. So the crash was not because of something you did ;)

Thanks for the help.

Another thing, I found a way to attach more photo's.post-63668-0-11986900-1394887156_thumb.ppost-63668-0-11432300-1394887164.png

i would just try disabling the intel gpu and see weather the error still occurs, because obviously it is a communication problem between your intel and the nvidia gpu...

When I have it activated a lot of things happen. I can play the game, I get a lot error messages and things get f****d up.

But when I disable it, only one thing happens. I get an error when I try to start a game.

Thanks for trying to help though. It's not working, but maybe there is a suggestion that helps.

When you get the out of memory error keep task manager open and look at the system memory usage. I've seen the "close programs to prevent...." window when the RAM is low, so check that.

Have you uninstalled the optimus and HD4000 graphics drivers and restarted when you try to play the game after you disable the HD4000 graphics adapter?

Usually around 40-50% while gaming and 30-40% while on desktop. When i get the error the usage goes up by 10% and not long after it drops to desktop usuage. In the screenshot I have a photo of my screen while I'm gaming on another screen. I also had alot of internet sites open so the usage there is 87%. it does not happen often that the ram is so high.

I never did that. I also don't trust it. it might work though. But I need that GPU a lot of times (while I'm not gaming) and I don't want to f**k everything up.. This is hard. I want to try a lot to solve the problem, but I also don't want to risk a full crash...

Edit: The picture doesn't want to rotate..

I did that once. I thought it solved the problem because I didn't get interupted by an error for the rest of the day. But next day it was like nothing changed.

I also think I have enough virtual memory. Or do I have too much?

attachicon.gifRAM change.png

virtual memory is irrelevant in this case, becuase it is to slow to be used by the igpu... did you run memtest?

Edit: Infact you should probably set that to default, since it does not improve the performance. Remember the computer does only use virtual memory if your actual ram is really full. Even though your error message says it ran out of ram you have plenty and the igpu as far as i know does not even juse the virtual memory, because it is on the harddrive, which is nowhere close of the speed of the actual memory.
