Hey guys, so I'm just sitting here derping around youtube, and both my screens go blue with a message telling me to activate windows. So naturally I go to my PC settings, and sure enough it says it's not activated. So I dig a little deeper, and it shows that my product key is being used on another PC. Before Microsoft locks me out of my computer, which came with windows 8 on it.  Does anybody know why this would happen? recently it tried to update and went into a boot loop, so I stopped that and rebooted and I don't know if the update ever finished but I haven't seen it. could this be the problem? I plan on calling Microsoft tomorrow and getting this figured out. .But with my busy work schedule I don't know if I'll be able to call in time.

There should be a sticker or something similar on your PC on which you'll find your product key. Reenter it.

Did you buy that computer brand new?

Well anyway, looks like your key is being used on someone else's computer for some reason.

Call Microsoft and tell them what happened, if there is some way you can prove your purchase that would make it a whole lot easier. I'm assuming its a custom build, where did you buy your copy of Windows?

The PC was originally a HP computer, that I turned into something better. I'm just using the same mobo, cpu, and hdd. I bought it almost a year ago however so I don't think I'll be able to find any proof.

Well if its a HP computer then you should contact HP first as it will be an OEM copy of Windows and will be HP's responsibly to fix any problems first before transferring you to Microsoft if needed.

If you changed out any of the original components in an OEM PC, you might mess Windows up. If you can't get ahold of Microsoft, PM me and I'll let you in on my activator (don't tell anyone  ;) ).

Update: I just talked to Microsoft, the guy I spoke with helped me no problem. He asked a couple questions about when it happened and got some personal information, then asked for some codes on the PC. Placed me on a hold no longer then two minutes at most, then gave me a new code and my windows shows that it's activated now. I am actually pretty surprised that their customer service was so great.
