Never built a computer before, does this build seem reasonable?

Wulfy1889

Budget (including currency): 2500 USD

Country: USA

Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: Gaming, VR, and streaming

Other details (existing parts lists, whether any peripherals are needed, what you're upgrading from, when you're going to buy, what resolution and refresh rate you want to play at, etc):

1440p, looking for something that can handle high framerates for high-action games, or 60FPS in cinematic games with the settings cranked. Since I will be streaming I want to have a good core count and NVENC. I also want to get a good VR headset and finally dip into VR on the PC.

I realize I'm not going to be finding some of these parts in stock for a while, I'm hoping to save up over the next s3-6 months.

The budget is just for the computer itself, no peripherals. The UPS is  being considered a separate purchase.

Parts list put together linked at the bottom of this post. The case is subject to change, I need to do more research. I'm also iffy on the motherboard, especially since I do plan to play around with overclocking (nothing extreme, but I like to tinker and get the best I can for my money). I feel like if I went too low on anything, it would be the mobo.

Specific question - is there any reason to buy a PCI Gen 4 SSD for the new CPU/GPUs? Or is that still a "If you don't know a specific reason you need it, then you don't need it" kinda deal?

General questions - does this seem decently well rounded? Anything that's unbalanced to where I should REALLY shuffle some of my budget from one side to the other? Other than all the rainbow unicorn puke I'm shoving in, will any of this just not look good together? (I tried to make sure everything is either black or programmable). Is this a reasonable build to tackle for my first time building, or did I do something that will make it horribly overcomplicated?

Edit -- saw one bullet point I didn't cover and decided it was a fair point to add. My current gaming/streaming computer is an Asus ROG equipped with a GTX 965m and an i7-4720HQ. It still serves me well, but I want to really see what PC gaming has to offer!

Any advice is greatly appreciated! And please let me know if you see anything you'd like me to justify/clarify why I feel the need to go that route!

EDIT - took some of y'alls advice and reworked my list to trim the fat. Now I'm actually sitting 200 dollars under budget and debating where that money should go - I don't think I'd benefit much from a CPU or storage speed upgrade. I'm thinking either RAM speed or maybe a better mobo? I have all the features I want from my motherboard, but I wouldn't say no to potentially better overclocks...

115- to 150 fps in 1440 for most game in ultra.

Right now is not the best time for buying ram since 4000mhz ram with a cl of 16 is like 400 and you will have better performance with 3600mhz ram cs 16. If you want to save you can go with a cheaper aio. X570 pro come with wifi 6, more sata ports and has USB 3.2 gen 2 header.

Good luck finding a RTX 3080 for 700, retail price is 799..

Also get a Freezer II 280 instead of Z73. Much better value.

I would go with 5800X instead for gaming.

Now you have money for a faster NVME drive, 980 Pro

And some decent fans and a case that's a little more stylish.

CPU: Ryzen 5800X3D | Motherboard: Gigabyte B550 Elite V2 | RAM: G.Skill Aegis 2x16gb 3200 @3600mhz | PSU: EVGA SuperNova 750 G3 | Monitor: LG 27GL850-B , Samsung C27HG70 |
GPU: Red Devil RX 7900XT | Sound: Odac + Fiio E09K | Case: Fractal Design R6 TG Blackout |Storage: MP510 960gb and 860 Evo 500gb | Cooling: CPU: Noctua NH-D15 with one fan

FS in Denmark/EU:

Asus Dual GTX 1060 3GB. Used maximum 4 months total. Looks like new. Card never opened. Give me a price.

I just plugged in 700 based on msrp. Hard to tell what will be a reasonable price to buy them at until they're actually easier to buy.

Honestly, I think I'd rather stick with air instead of an aio. Hard for me to verbalize why, I just kinda prefer it unless there's a hugely noticeable difference in performance (I'll have to look at some comparisons between what you just listed and some of the noctuas I've been looking at)

I've been waffling between the 5800 and 5900. Do you think the extra cores just won't be necessary even when I'm streaming a demanding game?

On the SSD, will anything leverage the extra speed of a 980? I know last time I checked, gaming and streaming really didn't benefit from a gen4 SSD, but with the new CPUs and GPUs I can't remember if anything was added that could actually use the extra speed.

The main reason I chose that 100 dollar case was...because I couldn't find a more expensive case I liked the looks of, tbh 😅. I also considered a meshify, but I didn't like it may better, and didn't see anything that justified a 60 for price hike

Okay, definitely some good points here to consider. I went with 4000mhz RAM because some ppl were staying it's the new sweet spot for Zen 3, but if I'm better off going for 3600 with better latency I'll go for it. Honestly never did understand the impact of the cas as well as I should...

I'll definitely looks at the pro monos, although wireless will more than likely never be used, but it never hurts to have. I should definitely pay more attention to my USB sepc though, that's a good catch

I probably did go overkill on my psu. I'd like to stick with titanium or at least paltinjm efficiency, but I can probably still save a fair bit if I look into that one some more.

I definitely think some of those suggestions will help me trim the fat on this build! Thank you both so much!

Wow my fault. I thought msrp was 799 actually..

No I don't think any games will benefit from the extra cores for a long time. For streaming, won't you be using experience or something like it anyways? i don't stream personally, so wouldn't know honestly. But maybe faster SSD speeds, because of the new consoles.
