Looking for feedback on my build plan

SHiFT

Budget (including currency): £2500 for the computer itself

Country: UK

Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: AAA gaming 99% of the time

Other details;

I am embracing the 1440P 144 / 165hz gaming vibes with this new build.

I'd like to go with a 5600X CPU as it's perfectly enough for gaming.

I'd like to go with the NZXT Kraken CPU cooler - the X63 I picked out before.

I went with an MSI Tomahawk X570 board for the build - I was told I could drop down to a B550 and save a bit more money.

I'd like to go with nice 16GB RGB RAM, so I picked out the Corsair Vengeance RGB PRO at 3600Mhz.

I'd like to go with a custom RX 6800XT GPU releasing next week.

I've went with 2TB of NVMe storage, and a 1TD HDD just to have.

For PSU I go with an RM850x from Corsair - GOLD cert.

What could I change or update? I am using scan.co.uk for my build - so keep suggestions limited to availability for them please!

I'm streaming every day, many AAA games, to entertain people and to get a hang of games that others are unable to play or want to see before they buy.

No this is a perfect build, but you can save a lot by changing to 1tb nvme, unless you want it, and also, ryzen 5000 is faster with 4 sticks of ram, and the rgb pro 3600mhz is cl18, which is slow for ryzen, get the rgb pro 4 x 8gb 4000mhz cl18 at best, which is preferable, otherwise, cl16

Yeah, I can - but I want more storage. I had 1TB of SSD space spread over 4 x 250GB units in my old PC and it was a nightmare trying to work around bigger games and that. Always had to move things around and stuff, so I want this to last a while! :)

Make sure ram is 3600c16, the b550 tomahawk is perfect and what case are you getting? Make sure it's one with good airflow, lie the meshify c or p400a digital or dx500

Ok but get rgb pro 4 x 8gb 4000mhz cl18, great ram, even if you do not need 32gb ram, it increases performance by up to 10%, so it is worth it

The RAM I'm getting is this ideally - https://www.scan.co.uk/products/16gb-2x8gb-corsair-ddr4-vengeance-rgb-pro-black-pc4-28800-3600-non-ecc-unbuff-cas-18-135v-amd-ryzen

If not the best, can you offer a better 16GB or even 32GB kit from SCAN? As an alternative and I can update my planning.

I see - if I get a B550 board, then there is no point me getting a Gen 4 NVMe drive from Corsair - right? I'd be OK with getting a simple M2 SSD "Gen3"? They are about the same price, so not much just big write / read speed differences which I won't notice probably.

For a case I go with Corsair 4000D AIRFLOW - it's been rated well. I have the Corsair 450D now so it's basically the same, just a 2020 update xD

Well, we have someone saying C16 and someone saying C18 RAM now - so which could work best? :D

B550 boards work with pcie gen 4 drives as well. The difference between b550 and x570 is that b550 only has 2 pcie gen 4 m.2 slots, x570 can have more.

Get this ram

3600 cl16 performs the approximately the same as 4000 cl18, if you want max stability, 3600 cl16, 4000mhz cl18 is less stable but I'd pick it anyways, for better performance, your choice.

Is it available in a 4 x 8GB kit you think? That would look nicer! :D

Um that is 2 x 16gb, ryzen 5000 performs better with 4 sticks of ram, so the 4 x 8gb 3600 cl16 or 4000 cl18 is better

It performs better with dual rank dual channel. As long as you have 2 ranks per channel, it works. Most 8gb sticks are single rank and that's why you need 2 per channel. Most 16gb sticks are dual rank, so you only need 1 per channel for the same prfomance boost

Yeah right, got confused in ranks again, yeah both will work the same, but admittedly 4 x 8gb looks better

There doesn't seem to be good deals or varieties of ram on scan. Can you get ram from another shop? This is what i recommend

https://uk.pcpartpicker.com/product/B34BD3/gskill-trident-z-rgb-32-gb-4-x-8-gb-ddr4-3600-memory-f4-3600c16q-32gtzrc

Apparently, The "Sweet Spot" is 4 ranks of memory for Zen 3 for up to 10% perf. increase in certain titles.

Is that RAM or the Corsair one linked above, 2 x 2 ranks? So 4 in total? e.g qualifies for that nice performance boost alone?

What about this option?

https://www.scan.co.uk/products/32gb-4x8gb-corsair-ddr4-vengeance-rgb-pro-black-pc4-28800-3600-non-ecc-unbuff-cas-18-22-22-42-rgb-le

Or this? It's "Ryzen Optimised"

https://www.scan.co.uk/products/32gb-2x16gb-corsair-ddr4-vengeance-rgb-pro-black-pc4-28800-3600-non-ecc-unbuff-cas-18-135v-amd-ryzen

Additionally, does the Vengeance have XMP on it? Apparently that's a neat feature to have with RAM.

Any 4x8 or 2x16 kit will be 4 ranks so will benefit from the boost. I'd recommend 3600c16 over 3600c18, but if you really need to get it from scan, then those kits you linked are ok. All ram sticks have an xmp profile, it's what you enable in bios so they run at 3600, otherwise they run at 2133.

Ah, so the RGB Vengeance PRO is 1 rank for 1 x 8GB stick so 4 x 8GB is 4 x 1 rank?

And the 2 x 16GB option is 2 ranks / 16GB stick so 2 x 2? If that's me grasping it. It's new tech for me :D

Alright - cool.

In my build, I want to go with the Corsair MP600 NVMe Gen.4 SSD - if I drop from X570 to B550 - will the new AMD GPU, 5600X, RAM and everything (inc. storage) work at their best performance?

EDIT: Also - what matters more you think? Having 3600Mhz in your RAM (as opposed to 3000 or 3200) or better CAS latency? So 14-15-16 CAS over 18CAS? But lower MHz..

Yes, there will be no difference. X570 is only useful if you need 4 nvme slots and more than 4 usb 3.1 and smore than 6 sata devices

Might've missed it as I edited it prob while you were typing :D

I'd say Mhz over CAS latency makes more of a difference.

There is options like this too - https://www.scan.co.uk/products/32gb-2x16gb-corsair-ddr4-vengeance-rgb-pro-black-pc4-25600-3200-non-ecc-unbuff-cas-16-135v-amd-ryzen

Lower MHz but better CAS at 16.

It's a combination. You want good frequency and good acces time. The acces time is calculated by dividing the CL number by the frequency. So 3600c18 and 3200c16 have the same access time, but the 3600c18 has higher frequency so it's overall a bit better. That'# why i was recommending 3600c16
