Stopping PC from disconnecting from network

Mahir Istehad

Hello,

So I remember that Windows had an option to automatically switch networks when one network has no internet. Now I am suffering from random disconnections as I think I have problem with the cable itself and each time internet stops my laptop disconnects from my router. But the ISP thinks my router is the problem as my laptop is disconnecting from router. Where is the option to stop my laptop from disconnecting from my router?

What are the results if you connect your device to an ethernet cable? Stable / unstable
Are you connected to a 2.4G or a 5G wifi connection? It could be wifi interference if you're on a 2.4G network.

What kind of router do you have?

If you're on a 2.4G network you could use all sorts of apps to scan your area on what type of signals are around you. Then select the proper wifi channel with the least interference.

AMD Ryzen 5 3600, 3,6 GHz  | MSI B450 Gaming Plus Max | G.Skill DDR4 Trident-Z 2x8GB 3600MHz CL18 RGB | Intel 660p 1TBGigabyte Radeon RX 5700 XT GAMING OC 8G | Corsair TX550M V2 PSU | Fractal Design Focus G Black | Windows 10 Pro X64

My laptop unfortunately doesn't have am ethernet port. It's a 2.4G router. And as far as interference goes the router is right outside my room and it happens with my parent's mobile too.

Could you download a Wifi analyzer app on your phone to view if other signals from outside your network are interfering?

Basically just walk around your house with this app to view if there might be an interference. Best to do this around 08:00 PM (most people are then home from work and doing stuff on their own network. That's the moment when interference might be the highest.

If your laptop (and other home devices) can handle 5G you might want to upgrade your router to a newer model that supports 5G.

Seems my network is at -40dBm. Referred as strong in the app. I am at my work desk where I suffer the problem.

Just out of curiosity, can you also view the 5G channels?

There are no 5G channels, atleast none picked up by the app.
