Hello everyone,

I am planning a build and my goal is to be able to upgrade the CPU and GPU down the road without replacing other parts. Right now my system is configured like this:

R5 3600

Rx 5600xt

Gigabyte B550 Aorus elite

I would like the ability to go to this down the road:

A new 4th gen 5000 series CPU (OC)

And either a 3080 or a 6800xt (maybe OC depending on the performance uplift)

And sufficient cooling the CPU

So I have a few questions, what psu wattage would you recommend? 750? 850?

I was also planning on getting the 3600 now and then upgrading later because the 3600 should be able to do everything I want it to now, but if you'd recommend just waiting and going straight for the 5600x Id consider it.

And lastly I am fairly sure that the B550 Elite shouldn't have trouble with even a 5950x, I wanted to ask you smart people to be sure : )

Thanks a ton!

I already have the 5600xt from a past system and it does everything I need it to now :)

if the gpu you already have works well, great. just make sure that if you upgrade it down the line that you have a mobo that can support a cpu that can handle the gpu.

Thanks mate! Do you have an opinion on if I should go for 750w or 850w?

750w for this build is adequate.

The answer is the same. If you have a 5900x + 3080, 750w even at full load is still enough.

if you plan to move forward this build in the future (like you upgrade this one) I personally (many would disagree with me) would go for the 850 watt to account for future upgrades and for psu wear.
