Other details (existing parts lists, whether any peripherals are needed, what you're upgrading from, when you're going to buy, what resolution and refresh rate you want to play at, etc): Here is my existing parts list:

PCPartPicker Part List: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/cdYY9N

CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 3600X 3.8 GHz 6-Core Processor  ($239.99 @ Newegg)

You should upgrade your RAM to at least 3200 or 3600. I know on Partpicker there is a ton of 3200 sticks at the same price that you're paying for the 3000 you currently are looking at. The 5600x is also a wise choice as the above gentlemen stated.

EDIT: Also, if you can't find a 5600x, for about $40 more, you might as well grab the 3700x instead. I know on Microcenter they're going for like $270 or so.

It is much better in gaming, multi-tasking, almost anything

frankly there is not much to be gained from 3600 to 5600x an 5600x doesn't have a good availability yet

imo get a better video card like a new amd rx card or rtx3070

if it was useful give it a like :) btw if your into linux pay a visit here

why is it better?

It is better because it gives more performance for lesser power and you will not be wanting to upgrade for longer as it has excellent performance as of now. Also you have some budget left over it costs only $60 more and gives immense performance increase. It is great value. Also as GreatnessRD mentioned get faster ram because AMD cpus benefit a lot from faster ram. Those two changes will give you great increase in performance and will also not cost much.

The performance difference is a lot....... It is worth a few weeks wait or months... Well, it depends on how urgently the pc is required
