You should know that the QLC chips on the QVL 2,5" SSD gets very slow when you copy a large enough file onto them. I use them for games in RAID and that's fine but copying large files they will slow down quite a lot. They load large games very fast though so if that is all they are intended for then it's all good.

Also why have you included a Corsair Commander when there is no Corsair RGB fans? It's gonna be his dream PC though that's for sure. :)

I included the Corsair Commander fan controller to be used as a fan controller, I used the Noctua fans because apparently they are the best, I picked those SSDs because they are 8TB for bulk storage, what do you recommend in its place.

The motherboard have fan controllers. Noctua fans are great, I use them myself and my PC is hardly audible but yeah they can be controlled via the motherboard without any other controller needed. If there are more fans than headers you can use PWM splitters to use two fans from one header, no problem. :)

When it comes to 2,5" SSD I generally recommend the QVO drives you had listed. Buuut when they are 8TB... Maybe instead 4x Samsung 860 Evo 4TB?

https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B07864XY8B?tag=pcp0f-21&linkCode=ogi&th=1&psc=1

Or 860 Pro but they're more expensive.

https://www.amazon.co.uk/Samsung-Solid-State-MZ-76P512B-EU/dp/B07BSQVH91/ref=sr_1_1?crid=3H498M9YLER2S&dchild=1&keywords=samsung%2B860%2Bpro&qid=1604868854&s=computers&sprefix=samsung%2B8%2Ccomputers%2C211&sr=1-1&th=1

I would go with either QVO or 4x 860 Evo. With 4x Evo they can be set up in RAID mode and they'll be faster than 2 QVO drives with the same amount of storage.

You can buy a 2,5" adapter to fit in the 3,5" bay and that will let you fit 2x 2,5" in one 3,5" bay but still you only get 3x drives. Regardless I'd be relatively impressed if someone filled up 3x 4 TB and 2TB NVMe (14 TB) though.

What makes you think this.

This is a 6K pc for your son who has not started college yet, not a car but a pc, a 6+ grand pc. This just seems fishy.

Also, you could save some money by going with 2x2 packs of corsair ml 120 fans instead of the more expensive but better Noctua fans.

In england university starts at 18 while a driver license is only 17, anyway he has a car and needs to start standing on his own 2 feet, I'll have a look into the fans.

You can choose if you want to have 2x 2,5" or 1x 2,5" + 1x 3,5" according to the Lian Li website.

Scroll down here and you will see. https://www.lian-li.com/pc-tu150/

However I noticed that the video card is recommended with 850W PSU so may want to bump that up a little. Corsair RMx 850 (80+ gold) will be good. Proper Japanese capacitors, good stable power delivery and silent.

I understand, although it seems nice, going to that extreme is well... a little overkill. You could probably buy a more than excellent system for way less. When coverted this into my usd it is around 8k, that is a lot of money for a college PC and it will just keep loosing it's value over time.

Anyway, I am sure that is going to be a kickass gift.

It is also possible to buy external drives if needed for some reason I can't tell as 10+ TB should be enough for absolute most. Regardless he can buy such drives later on himself even.

Cheaper components will do the same job, while this is what you want to give your son ..we're just saying that doesn't need the absolute best of the best components so to speak. Soon there will be new components that are better ...very soon actually. Anyway, point being.. It's not really worth spending to much on computers due to diminishing returns and the constant stream of new hardware but I know, a gift is a gift and so I help but at the same time saying this about the new hardware. You just ask if you want help with that or if you're happy like this then this will be an amazing setup for your lad for sure.
