Hard Drive upgrade concern

I have a Legion 5i with 1TB hard drive and I want to upgrade it to 2TB.

In rder to do so do I need to format my laptop and reinstall winndows and create partition or will just putting in the new drive and shrinking the volume in disk management work?

It has Windows 10 installed in 256GB SSD.

Since your OS is on another drive you just need to take out the HDD and plug in the new one. Then you'll probably want to transfer your data with USB dock / cable to the new drive.

Will there be any issue regarding partition type ( mbr or gpt) or it will accept the drive?

Since it's a new drive there won't be any partitions on it. You need to handle that after bootup via Disk Management.
