Go in to the Network connections settings area in Windows 10 (assuming your using Windows 10). Does it show you as connected to a network? Sorry I cant give better instructions, I use a Mac as a daily driver currently.

If its blinking then it will say not connected but now it sometimes works and sometimes dont 

and wierdly it seems to depend on which gpu is inserted in the pc

All I can say is reinstall the drivers. Go out to your motherboard vendors website and get the drivers. If those dont work, try figuring out what brand of adapter you have, such as Intel, Realtek, etc. Then go to their website and get the drivers. 

 

Edit: You may want to try another Ethernet cable, but generally Ethernet either works or doesn't.
