My First Build!

xxrod17xx

Hey guys this is my first build, prolly a little overboard, but I got a nice tax return this year so whatever, plus I want a beast for Star Citizen.  This is my first for everything.  I am going to use the 4-way optimization to slightly overclock the cpu, pretty scared and intimidated by the manual overclocking guide here.  Much less nervous for the build itself.

Specs:

CPU: Intel 4770k

Cooler: Corsair h100i

Mobo: Asus Maximus VI Formula

Ram: 16gb (2x8) Corsair Dominator Platinum Clocked 2133

GPU:  Asus Direct CU II 780ti

SSD:  Samsung 840 Evo 250gb

HDD: 1tb Seagate Barracuda

PSU:  Corsair AX 760 80+ Plat

Case: Corsair 750d

Only got package 1 of 3 today so far....pretty bummed wanted to build this thing before work started.  Also, based on tracking info I wont be getting the third package until tomorrow

@Butterfish  yea I am excited for it, i wanted something with the armor i love the look.  I also wanted something where I can overclock with 4-way Optimization.  The tuff series doesn't give me that, was pretty bummed about it also.

Don't go with colored LED's. Do a red themed build, but stick with white LED's. Looks a lot better imo. :)

just fyi, the 4-way optimization doesn't work on the formula board the way all the asus vids show.  it just has 3 presets (4.2, 4.4, 4.6 iirc), with preset locked voltages and everything.  nothing is actually optimized for your setup like all the asus fluff marketing material says for any of the z87 ROG boards.  that feature only works on their mainstream boards (the gold ones)

I am aware, i was going to just overclock minimally to 4.2, do you think I would come into any issues with voltage?  What about overclocking ram speed?

I'd follow this guide if I were you (and I did) for overclocking instead of using the asus preset.  It covers ram overclocking also

OK, it took forever and I had to RMA my HDD, was pretty frustrated with all that, but the build is complete and here are some pics!

Started swapping out the fans for the AF140s and the SP120's on the H100i

Next I put in the the PSU and the SSD just to get an idea of what kind of cable management I needed (which I will not be showing you!)

Then Mobo Ram and the cooler!

Then the last two are the final build pics (minus my HDD =( )

Not sure why everything is sideways, but you get the idea of the looks which I did not plan on going black and red at first I wanted black and white, but that mobo is so sexy
