im looking at updating my sever what case/hardware would be the way to go

i already have a setup running an old i7 970 with 3 sata ssd cache drives and one pcei to 8 stata with 4 16tb hdd

You can just add a gigabit nic you don't need 2 grand for gigabit local speed. Do you not a storage upgrade? also is the server just for storage?

motherboard has dieded so i need to update its just my media sever no i still have have 4 sata ports free

In that case i would buy an old x58 lga1366 mobo off ebay and continue using your current system.
