Looking for new phone

Go to solution Solved by MoonlightSylv,

The last generation Oneplus 8 is still a great phone, especially at $600. You could also go with the new Pixel 5 or 4a 5G. If you want something cheaper the OP 7 Pro still definitely holds up in my opinion.

I'm looking for a new phone, my budget is ~$700 and obviously the cheaper the better. I'm looking for a phone that is better than the oneplus 5 overall. I would prefer at least 128gb but if it's a little less then that's not a big deal. Please let me know what you guys recommend.

Edit: I would also like this phone to be durable and water resistant/water proof.

I bought a Pixel 5 and I'm happy with it. I can only recommend it.

If you got any questions about that I can answer them for you.

I'm not familiar with the pixel 5, is it durable and how's the storage and camera? Also how much is it?

It depends whether you’re ok with switching platforms, but I’d also really recommend either the iPhone SE or 11 - I moved from a OnePlus 5 a year ago to a 11 and it is a huge improvement in virtually every way. There’s also the SE If you want something cheaper (but only one camera and large bezels)

I control remotely few computers and security cameras using my phone. I browsing internet, using email client, I connecting wireless my phone into pc to made it communication center (automatic messages, mms handling). I also using it as e-banking device, video communication and media remote controller. Plus camera of course. And I have really crappy old phone (Lenovo with Android 7). What do you do on your phones more that needs so powerful hardware? I'm just curious.

I don't necessarily need the extra power or anything but I don't want to have a downgrade of a phone. I simply like to have that at my disposal if need be. I play games, snap, remote into my pc, browsing the internet, and watching shows and whatnot.

It's not a downgrade, it's just changing the way you treat your phone. If you buy something cheaper, you can spend rest of money for pc improvement. Or other things. Good Yamaha amplifier costs less than your budget. You can buy lot of ram for that. Or even build small pc as media center. I can imagine lot of things better to spend money than phone. But it's just me and everyone has different needs.

I would say either a Pixel 5 or OnePlus 8T, and my inclination is toward the Pixel 5.

The Snapdragon 765G will still be an improvement over your OnePlus 5, and the Pixel 5 appears to be a solid overall package with a great camera, long battery life, water resistance, 128GB of storage and strong OS update policies. That and you'll get a relatively 'pure' version of Android with the latest Google features.

The OnePlus 8T will be faster and boast a 120Hz screen, but the camera system is merely so-so and you'll be waiting a bit longer for OS updates.

For that you would need to find a review that specifically compares the new phone to the OP5

Well no not really, I can compare specs and other people's opinions about the phone. I don't understand what kind of point you're trying to make.

iPhone 12 Mini is 700

I stated above I won't switch to Apple. I think I'm going to go with the Oneplus 7 Pro. It's cheap off Amazon and has more than what I'm looking for. So why not?

Throw some examples:

Note 10, good screen, spec, only a decent camera and software + support is so so. Bad SoC depending on your region. Most of this applies to all Samsung phones.

Pixel 5, great camera, so so specs, good update periods

Oneplus, great performance, average camera, slow updates, not nearly as cheap as it used to be which was a big part of their appeal.

Since the pixel has gone mid tier now I don't think there is a great, all round jack of all trades phone now. You're always sacrificing say performance for camera or features for software support etc.

I'm going to get the oneplus 7 pro renewed on Amazon which is backed by Amazon with a 90 day warranty plus a case for $400. The specs are great for that price imo plus it's a pretty good upgrade from the op5

@MoonlightSylv@pierom_qwertyJust wanted to let you guys know I got my Oneplus 7 Pro and I love it. It's way better than the 5 and is really smooth. I also bought this case with it which I'm loving too. My only complaint is the waiting period to unlock your bootloader 😒
