Need help deciding on a cpu

Chris.G

Budget (including currency): $200 - $300

Country: USA

Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: Racing sims, Bethesda titles, Diablo 4.

Other details:

EVGA 550w psu

ASRock B450M Pro4

Ryzen 3000G overclocked to 3800MHz @ 1.35V

16GB (2 x 8GB)  G.SKILL Ripjaws V 3200MHz

EVGA RTX 2060 (KO? It just says rtx 2060)

pos enermax hotbox

I need some advice on what cpu to get. I've been holding off, waiting for the Ryzen 5 5600X and accompanying BIOS update. But is it even worth waiting for a 5000 series? Or would something like a 3600XT be just as good? It's my first computer and I don't know how powerful a cpu I need need to work well with the 2060.

I'd get a 3600 or a 3300X. A 5600X is overkill for a 2060, and the XT isn't worth the extra cost that you can usually overclock the difference anyways. Even with a 3600 you won't start bottlenecking your GPU until you're in the 2070-2080 performance territory.

a 3100/3600 would be fine even for 1080p with a 2060, x/xt variants are shit value. a 5600x only makes sense for 1080p-1440p with one of the new cards or possibly a 2080ti, otherwise you wont be cpu limited much

topics i need help on:

Thanks, guys! I think I'll go with the 3600 and use the money I'm going to save on a nice cooler. Or maybe a case with good airflow.

sorry for the late reply, but i got alittle addon to this.

a 5600x would be a really nice option IF you want to future proof the pc alittle more and IF you will be upgrading the pc. like you could add in a better gpu once u feel like upgrading. but ofcours the 3600 is really nice aswell! a friend of mine hasw the 3600 and a rtx 2060 and he runs games and vr stuff very very well
